MEDIA AWARENESS WORKSHOP
Date
27 February 2008
24 September 2008
19 March 2009
Description
Most emergencies occur suddenly, often when critical staff are unavailable.
Those who are at the scene have to cope with enquiries and pressure from the
media at least until members of the public relations/media relations department
arrives. Even with professional media relations personnel present, reporters
usually want to interview those directly involved in the emergency to put a
'human face' on rescuers and those affected. Frequently members of companies
are seen struggling to present their organisation well under the glare of the
media spotlight.
In this workshop, delegates will be given advice on how to prepare for and deliver a media interview. They will then have an opportunity to apply this knowledge in front of the camera and receive a friendly critique and further advice.
Aim
To develop delegates' competence and confidence in being interviewed by the
media.
Issues Examined
- What are the types of media you may encounter and their needs?
- Who from your team should face the media?
- What do you need to prepare before going into an interview?
- What can go wrong - and how to get it right!
- How to make the interview work for you.

The duration of the course
is a full day, and runs from 0900hrs to 1700hrs.
