Date

18 November 2008

Description
Emergency management exercises are an essential part of plan review and validation. They may also be used to evaluate the planning processes used, to identify needs, or to demonstrate capabilities. The management of an exercise is a systematic process involving consultation, planning, documenting, conducting, evaluation and validation. All organisations involved in emergency management should also be involved in the development of emergency management exercises. This course is relevant to the development of small site Emergency Response Team exercises and to the development of multi-agency, community emergency management exercises.

Aim
To develop participants' ability to manage a wide range of exercises.

Issues Examined
- Why run exercises and what is the purpose of your particular exercise?
- What are valid exercise aims and objectives and what makes them so?
-
What types of exercise can you run and what are their advantages and disadvantages?
- What is the process you should follow to develop a safe and effective exercise?
- How can you make your exercise realistic and yet safe?
- What documentation do you need to support the exercise?
