CRISIS CARE - AN AWARENESS-RAISING DAY

Description
The course looks at the psychological and social impact of traumatic incidents on those caught up in them. Although it concentrates on major incidents, the material is relevant for any trauma, from a plane crash to an individual assault, or a suicide.

Aim
To introduce delegates to some of the major themes in the provision of effective crisis care to survivors, the bereaved and helpers following a disaster.

Issues Examined
- The impact of a major incident
- The range of normal reactions to traumatic shock
- Short term and long term reactions
- Survivors' needs
- Issues in mounting a service
- A range of intervention strategies
- The importance of caring for the helpers

Duration
The duration of the course is one day and runs from 0900hrs to 1600hrs

Guidance for Attendance
This is a useful preliminary day for anyone who may be involved in crisis care as a planner or a support worker, or those interested in the subject.
